The tradition of meditation dates back to the beginning of human history. Thousands of years ago, Patanjali, an Indian Sage of legend, described the process by which the capacity to meditate is actualized. He called it “Self Realization” since, in the state of meditation, he experienced an absolute awareness of his “Self”.

Meditation is best understood as a state which you can achieve and not an activity to be performed. You can become completely awake, alert and under full control of your senses and brain. But without thoughts or very few in the head and you should feel a sense of tranquility or relaxation. Initially there could be other sensations because everybody is in a different condition when they learn to meditate.

With a little practice of Meditation for a few minutes, once or twice each day, it is not difficult to derive benefits in many areas of your life, particularly health. These come naturally as your nervous system develops more of its own inner qualities. If you start on our free course you should notice something within hours or days and not just after some weeks.

Most important to understand is that true Meditation is natural and the body, brain and central nervous system is designed for it to occur. So you should not pay anyone for ‘knowledge’ or instruction. Did you pay to learn breathing or eating?

The mechanism by which “Self Realization” occurred was a closely kept secret that was handed down from a Guru to his disciple after long penances, discipline and purification. Sahaja Yoga meditation is about tapping into ones spiritual energy, firstly by recognizing that it exists (Self-Realization) and there by using it to improve one’s life. It is important to remember that Sahaja Yoga is not a philosophy of blind faith, it is a Truth, which is physically verifiable by those who practice it, via the ‘Cool Breeze’ or vibrations that one feels on the hands or head.

Meditation at Home:

In Sahaja Yoga which is Shri Mataji’s precious gift to mankind, there are many ways to correct our meditative conditions which are simple and absolutely spontaneous. The following meditation may be done at home.

Sit comfortably on the floor or in a straight backed chair. Rest your hands, palms upward on your lap, fingers pointing in the direction of the photograph of Shri Mataji. The photograph should be placed in front of you (on a table) and lighted candle placed before it. The candle flame has the property of neutralizing negativity as it is released from the human system. Keep your attention on your top of the head. Use the right hand as indicated on the left side of your body to support the movement of the Kundalini upwards. You can use the affirmations silently, repeating them ‘ inside ‘ without speaking them ‘ outside ‘. Gradually still all thoughts and feel the inner peace. Soon you will feel some tingling on the palm of your hands. It nmay be hot or cold or just like poking with pins & needles. After a while you will feel relaxed and joyful.

Sit comfortably in a chair or on the floor. Keep the photograph of Shri Mataji in front & lit lamp or candle. Keep your hands towards the photograph as shown in picture


Put Right hand towards Shri Mataji’s picture and left hand palm facing upwards towards the back. Pray the affirmation “ Shri Mataji please clear my pingala Nadi” or Right channel.


Put Left that hand towards Shri Mataji’s photograph and the Right hand palm down on the Mother Earth. Pray the affirmation “ Shri Mataji Please clear my “Ida Nadi” or Left Channel.


Keep both hands towards the photograph. Breathing in/out will be equal, quiet and slow. Keep the attention on the top of your head. Slowly close the eyes.


At the base of the spine, in the physical body, is a bone called the ‘Sacrum’, which has a triangular shape.

And in that bone, but on a level which is more subtle than the physical, resides an energy or awareness known as the Kundalini (meaning coiled up feminine power).

The Kundalini is dormant in most people but it (She) can awaken and spread through the spinal column and through the top of the head. The Kundalini has the qualities of a wise and enlightened Mother, who fully understands our needs and our capacities. She has the ability to cleanse and repair our inner being on the subtle level. This helps the immune system to keep us healthy and our central nervous system to experience peace, satisfaction and a broad sense of well being.

When the Kundalini has reached the brain a person tends to feel relaxed and meditative without effort. The thinking process starts to subside and the person is better able to enjoy the present. Thinking tends to direct the individual attention towards either the past, through memories, or towards the future, through anticipation or activity.

The Kundalini can never be awakened by force or by any determination or activity of the human ego or psyche. When She is ready is the right time and then the process is spontaneous, natural and without harmful side effects. Normally the Kundalini will choose to awaken when feeling the presence of another awakened Kundalini. At this moment a part of the Kundalini becomes active and more and more of the Kundalini can become active later on, provided that suitable circumstances prevail.
